Rooted in the rich traditions of my Acadian family—one of the first fifteen families to settle in Louisiana—I’ve always believed that food is more than just nourishment; it’s a way to connect with our heritage and each other.
Growing up, I learned the art of cooking from those who came before me, from my aunt scraping file’ off oak trees for our seafood gumbo to both of my grandfathers, Blackie and Tom, crocheting crabbing nets. While my father enjoyed fly fishing in Bayou Liberty, it was my grandfather and uncles who often went shrimping and crabbing, providing the bounty for our summer feasts. These gatherings filled our freezers with treasures for gumbos and hot plates during the colder days along the bayou.
Our garden also contributed with an abundance of okra, corn, squash, and butter beans, while our Christmas meals often featured duck from the swamps, alongside fried butterfly shrimp, trout, and catfish from the Lake Pontchartrain and the Gulf of Mexico.
This deep appreciation for food has inspired me to seek out exceptional venues, chefs and service among the food industry.
At Savoureux Saveurs, we celebrate the art of good eating with food and restaurant critiques. Living in New Orleans, shaped by rich culinary traditions, my passion for food is woven into every post. I believe that dining should be an experience—one that combines flavor, atmosphere, and exceptional service.
